Been helping him try to sort this tonight There is no pulse at the ignitor either and how can we test the Ecu to see if that's at fault? Which plug/wires send signal to coil and which are the signal from cam/crank sensor ?

Does anyone have the Ecu pinouts for the 8s Ecu so can see which cables I need to test etc can't find them for this Ecu thanks

You could try testing the input and outputs to the ignitor. The number of inputs will depend on whether you have wasted spark or coil over plugs. I have the latter which means 4 control wires from the ECU and one ground wire. 4 wires come put the other side which are the ground side switched control wires for the coils. If wasted spark I think there are only two control wires. You could use as test light connected to battery negative to test the wires coming out as they ground the circuit to saturate the coil and then the spark occurs when their ground is cut. More difficult to test the wires coming from the Ecu as they conduct a power signal which is quite small and doesn't last long. I am unsure whether you could pick this up using a test light connected to battery negative as the current produced by this voltage will be really small.
I use a cheap laptop scope from Hantek which shows them up really nicely. If you have a control signal coming from Ecu but no output from ignitor then you have a bad ignitor. If no signal from Ecu then either your wiring to the Ecu is bad or the Ecu itself is bad. I would definitely look for this signal to the ignitor because if it's there then you don't need to worry about the Ecu.
Good luck!

Another thought about crank and Cam signals. These are both sine waves produced by a reluctor sensor. You can measure them using a voltmeter as it will give you an average voltage (measure using the AC voltage function). If you have no crank or Cam signal then you will have a no start. Some volt meters have a frequency measurement which would also pick these signals up.

Just had another thought!!
I had my inlet manifold off and then had intermittent problem with starting. Cleaned up the earth which was at rear left hand side of manifold itself. No problems since. If your car has an earth on the manifold it might be worth doing this particularly if the manifold was of for a while and had a chance of corroding a bit. Bad earth would lead to no spark for sure.

Was it running ok before you had the inlet off? Any fault codes?

Knew I'd seen something on you tube looking at a no spark in a Subaru engine. Hopefully this might help.

Cheers for that mate does anyone know what sort of volt reading I would get off cank sensor tried it from the ecu side got 0.02 then turned car over and it was pulsing up and down went too 0.07 Volts ?

Just done some measurements on my 95 WRX with engine running.
As I explained before the signal is a sine wave and so you have to measure AC voltage as the voltage swings either side of zero:
I have the scope readings which I will PM you (haven't worked out how to post an image yet)
Crank was around 3.4 volts
Cam was around 2.2 volts.
