Arrrrrgggghhhh!!!
Can ANYTHING be done about the neutral position switch???
It's pissing me off, soon as the cel comes on you can feel it rain in the power, then it goes off power pumps back up again.
It's had a brand new one installed from cot comp.
Feckin doin me head in! Any ideas chaps?
6 speed isn't an option lol
It's a 2002 Bug WRX by the way.

Plug is spotless.
The new one fitted is about 4 weeks old, a genuine OEM part.
I've read somewhere, that fitting it without the washer can help?
But I'm not sure i wanna do that if I'm honest.
It's also an **** to get at
Is there an overall fix? Or is this how it is on the WRX's when there tinkered with?

Fauty NPS on the Bug usually doesn't change the power output...........does on the STi as it stops the AVCS. NPS usually throws misfire CELS on the WRX..
Shouldn't be a problem to get to on the WRX if you have thin hands
Mapper can mess with the polarity to help....

Apparently if the engine doesn't know what gear it's in. It pulls boost. Something to do with in gear boost control?
Anyway, it was picked up when mapping? So I got a new one. Just resetted the ecu. So far so good.
Also remembered, that I might have move the knock sensor away from the gear box. As he could sometimes hear it during mapping lol an the knock sensor might be picking up gear box noises.
Think I'm gonna try a thin fibre washer then the up pipe get changed. See if that helps.

No knock picked up during mapping though?
As we were doing the power runs through the gears, he said he could hear the box.
It's been mapped safety as far as I know.
The other thing I suppose, I have a blown up pipe on the flexi. That won't help.
Will find out in a week or so, maps gonna be checked when the trick up pipe is fitted

Didn't think the Bug WRX DENSO ECU could do in gear boost control out of the box, That's why I went for a AVCS
Just curious, what sort of mapping have you had done?
Cheers

When the mapping is in progress, the whine, noise, vibrations etc off the gear box is heard by the engine management system (that's the ECU) and Andrew carrs det cans
this is then interpreted wrongly by the ecu as knock, pinking, det! Thus the reccomendation to relocate the knock sensor else were in the engine bay.
Would you like me to draw you a picture

Then check engine light comes on intermittently under boost
BUT, I do have a severely blown up pipe (flexi has completely gone) an it vibrates/blows very nastily from cold. Not so noticeable from in the car when driving. Secondly, I'm on a 5 speed running at a fairly highish power. So the neutral position switch could be acting up? Or the knock sensor is hearing the noise off the up pipe, or insufficient gas flow cos of the blown pipe, or gear box whine (again, knock sensor might be picking up again)
During mapping, the car picked virtually no knock at all. It's been smooth as a baby's bum (Part from the feckin pipe blowing)
The reason people are picking on him, is cos of the cranberry map. It's a long story. An it's not really my Buisness to speculate on a public forum.
But in our Lancashire community, Andy is a very respected mapper, very good at what he does (an does well) and I, amongst many many others would Recommend Andy and his "SUPER ROM" map any day. Top bloke too.

The engine is mechanically spot on, what it needs it gets. Meticulous service history, only done 51k. The best oil recommended by the appropriate tuning bodies.
I 'trust' Andy Carr with my engine and his mapping. I trust Brian at cams performance with my engine, and mechanical work on my car
The only other thing it may be, is the box? Hopefully not cos I'm skint after tuning it all lol.
As for the up pipe. That's very appreciated buddy, but I think I'm gonna go for the Harvey one.
Mr Smith, rest his soul, knew what he was doing. An the trick up pipe better spool thing is what I'm after!
