Default turbo issues

Hi peeps, just wanted to know some info if a turbi was shaggged would it still boost, as my td05 16g is boosting well to late, full boost around 4.5k, theres no leaks as all has been checked, all gaskets sealed off, all hoses are on and no splits, now could it be the turbo?

What other supporting mods do you have, what headers and Up pipe you are running and what boost you are running?

Are you been recently on RR?

What's wrong with the car to make you think it may be dead if its been inspected and given a clean bill of health?

Ahh yea just seen it in your post

Has this turbo always been on the car or was it a swap for another at some point along with the headers and up pipe?

Reason I ask is was it making boost earlier before the headers and up pipe went on with any other mods? What did your mapper have to say?

I had td04 before this turbo, headers n uppipe where changed alongside turbo and fuel pump before map, mapper said it that its gasket leaking from uppipe as it was but gaskets have been changed for proper ones and sealed and theres no leaks and its still the same

gt spec headers can be laggy , i dont know the spec of that up-pipe if its wide that may be your problem. i would try and get another up-pipe , harvey was the man with headers and matched up-pipes unfortunately he is no longer with us.

Tbh mate, I dont think it is. I had tubular headers on with harvey smitha uppipe and it was like that before, I thought it was the headers so changed to ported oem ones and still no luck, I missed the midrange and top end power I got from tubulars so I went back on to them which are now gt specs

or fit the ol` standard ones back on, probably need a map tweak though. the standard ones especially when ported are good for 400hp and have good spool

How do u adjust the actuator? You can hear it spool up around 3.5 and then the power starts coming in around 4k

there should be a thread on the bar that attaches to the wastegate, mark where it is now so you can return it there if needed. i think you take a circlip off the where it fits to the turbo and then just wind it in or out. i think wind it out as in make it longer will keep the wastegate closed longer

Oh ok, il have a look at it later when im at work, what does adjusting the actuator actually do though? Like how does that affect the spool up of the turbo?

opens or shuts the wastegate. if your wastegate is opening to early the exhaust pressure is being bled off, if the wastegate opens too late you get boost spikes, overboost.

you could always go back to the mapper, hope he was someone decent, usually the good ones are helpful if you can get hold of them, they do tend to be busy.

Oh makes sense! It could be that, like you can also hear it kinda sucking through, theres no air leaks but sounds like one when on boost. And mapper is jgm, he came and checked car n said gasket was leaking

So did a few runs after adjusting the actuator a few times and still no cure. Back to the drawing board. Can a turbo be ****ed even though its not smoking and still boosting?

Hi there

If doesn't smoking on boost etc,,I wouldn't say is the turbo,if making full boost as should(if you have boost gauge, just check)

On some cars GT Spec headers with smaller turbo, making turbo laggier, try swap for OE headers and test them with those headers

Or you can remove turbo,on TD range shaft movement shouldn't be,but on ball bearing cores is the small movement, but not excessive

Already tried ported oem headers and uppipe, made no difference, if anything I lost the top end power
