Talking Prodrive STi (325bhp) - what next to get to 370ish

Hi Scoobynetters,

I'm feeling the need for a little more power . My car is an 03 STi with Prodrive, Harvey up-pipe, upgraded clutch, 3 port solenoid etc etc and FB Tuning remap running 325bhp.

If I want to get power to around the 370/380 level what would be the next step and roughly how expensive might this be? It has been suggested that I would need a new turbo and associated remap but that FMIC isn't necessarily required?

Cheers

I have an 03 sti type uk running over 400bhp on the top mount so 370/380 wont be a problem, injectors will be just about on the limit as my standard injectors would not go past 386bhp but a FPR or bigger injectors will cure that one, I opted for bigger injectors. Biggest thing though will be the turbo, maybe something like an sc40

Turbos have different charecteristics! As a rule, top end power going up means spool point goes up as well, so more beans = more lag!

If however you do some research and get the right turbo that best fits your power goals (SC36, VF34 etc), you can end up with next to no lag and grunt to the red line!

If you get the wrong one having focussed just on top end power figures (TD05's etc) Youll end up with a much laggyer engine which in the real world ends up being a slower point to point car than before despit its 50 more bhp's.

as above right combo of turbo vs engine is the make or break thing, get it right and you end up like this,

vf34 on my old 2.0 uk turbo, which went very well

sc46 on my 2.5 hawkeye

Yes it did get a bit more lag but by the time I got rid of the downpipe cat and went full 3 inch exhaust I managed to crawl back the spool and it is almost the same as it was on the standard turbo, best thing is that it boosts very well all the way to the red line with quite a flat torque curve

@Tidgy that's a pretty tidy result on a 2.5.

Spoke to ScoobyClinic earlier to get some costs and it looks like around £2k including remap SC38 turbo, labour and air filer kit and VAT.

He did say because I had an road tuned open source map on there I would have to pay the EcuTek fee, however my original map was a JGM map where I have paid the Ecutek fee so that's a bit of a pain...

Are open source maps bad/good, I have been very pleased with the result from FB tuning, which I did when I had to get new fuel pump and a few other bits.

not sure why it would have a lisence if its been open sourced?

persoanly prefer the support ecutek give to there mappers, if something unknown crops up they help. open source your on your own.

I had an Ecutek map from JGM before so the licence for the Ecutek map has been paid, it is on an open source at the moment which was done on the road.

I'm assuming with Ecutek the bulk of your initial costs are for the licence not a base map.

Hi there

You have few choices, but range from SC is good and as above SC38 or SC42 should be good one

Or if you can find good and still awesome TD05-20G or MDX321T for good price and use mapper of your choice

Rich@FB Tuning is good guy and good mapper,we are never used him,but have good reputation. We are used only Neil@Slowboy Racing and Duncan@Race dynamix
