I've taken off the fibreglass-like insulation on the underneath of the (aluminium) bonnet of my blob to ease access as there are a couple of tiny dents I'm hoping to get sorted by one of the paintless dent removal places.
The insulation is not too bad, but odd bits of it are falling off.
My question is whether it's really necessary to keep it or not? I've bought new plastic fastenings to re-fit it as the old ones broke taking them out, but if it's un-necessary, I'd sooner leave it off as it will make keeping the engine bay clean easier.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks folks.

I think I would rather hear if there were any nasty rattles or knocks coming from my engine so to me definitely no advantage to having it. Plus you can make the bonnet all clean and shiny if its not there
