Default Engine miss/runs rich

Hi i have a 1998 subaru impreza 2000cc AWD non turbo EJ20E my sparkplugs (all 4) have dry black soot on them, the engine ticks over OK but when driving it misses quite a bit , can someone tell me what it is and what parts /or parts.i need to repair it .its a uk model .

When lying idle for a few days on start up a lot of smoke from the exhaust.

It is new Bosch plugs and Magnecor ht leads, also fitted a replacement second hand coil pack thinking that might be the problem.

I really appreciate anyones help.

do a fault code check first mate but TBH its good practice to renew the MAF and O2 sensors on these cars if they have unknown history

Thanks for the feedback guys really appreciated, Thunder8 I will fit a new knock sensor first as I have exactly the problems you stated, if that does not help then I will change the MAF failing that fault codes checks will be done. Thanks
