Default Will a 3" cat back fit a factory down pipe?

Does anyone know if a 3" cat back will fit a standard factory down pipe? Will I need adaptors or a new 3"down pipe?

I put a 3" cat back onto my 02 bugeye standard downpipe. It tapers down to 2.5" so fitted fine. I think most 3" taper down to 2.5" to mary up with standard fitment. I'm sure someone will correct me if im wrong. If you tell us what exhaust it is ( if known ), that may help.

I got it tonight. The center section is 3" down to 2.5" at the other side. I don't know what make it is? It doesn't taper down either. The back box I have is 2.5" so I'm just gonna pick up a 2.5" center section to save messing about. I need one ASAP tho!
