High Emmissions & only de-cat pipe & due for M.OT
Hiya folks,
I read some older threads about this & T.B.H I don't know what the best course of action is..?
I have a Jap Import 95' WRX Wagon with the EJ20 Engine registered in 01/05/95, with what I can see has a full-de cat pipe all the way through, but i'm not sure without putting it on a ramp to check it properly.
Had the car 3 years now. The first time I took it for M.OT, they told me it was the highest emissions they had seen! But luckily I found a very friendly M.O.T tester who took a back hander on the bosses day off every year. Unfortunately for me he has left to lay driveways! Which is a kick in the nuts.
Yeah, I know I shouldn't have been complacent & buried my head in the sand but s**t happens. Yeah, normally I would take it in to my local Scooby specialist & get all the cat pipes/ Sensors I need to get the job done thoroughly, but I lost my Job & i'm skint, so i'm willing to have a crack at it myself.
So my questions are:
What should I check first?
What is the cheapest/least hassle way of curing this?
Should I take it for a pre-test to get the actual Emissions readings for reference to work from?
Does anyone know a 'friendly' M.O.T Tester in the Lincs/ Newark area?
Would appreciate any help, cheers. : )

Sounds like you need to find another dodgy MOT tester Find a garage that's got a few rally cars knocking about and book a mega early MOT (8.30 am). Have a good old chat when you get there, offer to go make a few cups of tea then mention the fact that it's not got a cat! Worked for me

Go in to few garages, I was lucky to find one that just charged me the normal 35 and let my car through
Try the local tuner garages alot of them will stick a system on for you and take it next door

EMMISSIONS PAST!
Thanks for your response everyone,
I took the Scooby to a hillbilly garage in the sticks run by one man (Makes the decisions himself & doesn't answer to anyone else - unlike your local 'Chain M.O.T places) - a very friendly bloke. He found a few faults & let me do the repairs/ adjustments with his tools myself whilst car was on the lift. He checked the Vosa Emmission regs for me & followed the flow chart. It only needed to pass on: CO & HC. Which It passed (don't know if he blagged the results - I didn't ask) His missus made brought me a cold lemonade & he let me wash off in his house. Yeah, I had to travel 25 miles & it cost me £40 for the M.O.T + tip, but I came away with a certificate. I will be goin there again I reckon, as long as don't make me "Squeal like a piggy..." : )
