Default Where have you fitted your EGT sensors?

As the title says! I'm about to install a Zeitronix wide band kit to my classic and will be fitting an EGT probe as well. I just want know know where you guys have fitted yours and what temps have you been getting? I've read that it should be fitted before the turbo but I've also read a lot of conflicting posts about exactly where. Some prefer in the headers etc but I want a good average temperature of all 4 cylinders. Would the up pipe be best in this case?

I have mine fitted in the headers just before the junction to the up pipe.
If you fit post turbo, temps will be up to 100c below those pre-turbo.
My EGT temps rise up to 700c on full load but run around 300c off boost.
I understand up to 800C is quite common, 900c is not desirable.
Invest in a good quality probe if fitting pre-turbo.

Excellent reply, thanks! What type of probe have you got? I've read that probes can fail and the debris ends up in the turbo!!

Oh, and did you just drill and tap the headers or weld a boss on?

Bob Rawle who knows a thing or two about Subarus told me it has to be fitted in the headers to give a true reading.

my aftermarket ecu doesn't use the front lambda so I use that boss.
It may be you have to weld a boss into the up-pipe.
I can't remember the make of sensor, it's a thermocouple type which I run to a thermocouple meter.

I can only see the lambda just after my turbo on the downpipe, is there another one on a 97 classic? Mine is pre OBD2, ver 3 I think.

Ah no problems, I'll get the jack out and go under for a look! I'll probably drill and tap the collector on the original headers then. I'll defo have to get a new boss welded on for the wide band sensor. It needs to be a least 16" away from the turbo. I can do that bit myself though
