Default Boosting issues 95 STI wagon import

Hi everyone i have a small issue with my car, when i bought the car it had a manual boost controller fitted with no boost gauge, the big end started to knock so i pulled it of the road and due to money issues it stayed that way for three years, fast forward to now and i have rebuilt the engine with new rings ACL race bearings gaskets bolts etc. The car is running fine and have done about 2000km ( jap import ) and have turned the boost controller up a bit and am enjoying it, I have fitted my boost gauge ( not the best one out there i must say ) and its reading 0.2 - 0.3 bar so i turned the boost up a bit more and still reading the same ?
I dont know if the car has been mapped or what it has had done to it ( i assume its standard, i would like to get the boost back to standard ie the boost control solinoid,.
here are some pics of what i have, i am just looking for some advise incase there is anything out of place which would cause it not to boost on the gauge.

any help would be much appreciated.

Right i couldn't wait till later, i have just connected it back to standard and s**t that's quick the gauge is now reading 0.5 bar but that's only in 2nd and just into 3rd as i got a bit scared, it has never been that quick and the DV has got a lot louder as well.
If it was over boosting a lot ( assuming my gauge is faulty ) would the ecu cut the power or would it let it just keep going until it went bang ?
If the boost control solenoid was not working would i still get this much boost ?
Sorry for the stupid questions.

take the ecu out of the car and post the two big letters off of the top. Take off the lid and check if a chip is fitted. The last thing you want is a crazy jap spec chip or the wrong ecu type to ruin your engine. then as above set up the 3 port but make sure the pill restrictor is fitted in the bottom pipe next to the solenoid.

i have a v3 sti and it boost's too 1.1 bar so i would think yours will be around the same figure. as said above though you will only hit that giving it some beans, least thats what i find anyway. you should hit fuel cut i think around 1.2 bar if your ecu is standard like mine

Right i have had a quick look and found this.

Just done a quick google and found that most people say its quite an aggressive ecu and only to be run on V-Power and OB which i have been doing, but my gauge is still only reading 0.6 so i think i have a faulty gauge and will go and get a nice one.

yes that ecu has been mapped by prova which are known to be an agressive map. hence why the engine probly went bang in the first place. if its been mapped with a chip in the spare socket on the board you can reconnect the j1 resistor and run the standard map again. if you do manage that i can see that ecu is d18 which is a z4. that is perfect for a td05 turbo as fitted to your car with 97 ron fuel.
if prova have mapped the ecu by another means (only a few companies had the kit to do this did this in japan)
then you will need a new ecu.
a z4 ecu on ebay goes for about £40.

I have just had my gauge tested and it is faulty, we pressurised it to 1 bar and was only reading 0.5 until i flicked the gauge and it moved up to 1 bar, did this a few times and now it reads quite a bit below 0 even with nothing connected to it so just ordered a new gauge and see how we go from there.
Once again cheers for the help it has been much appreciated .
