Default Turbo Failure

Hi Folks

Whilst driving to work today all of a sudden my turbo stopped work. Before I start stripping it down any suggestions.

The car is a my04wrx has full decat exhaust system and a dump valve fitted>

Cheers

When you say it stopped working, what do you mean? Low boost? No boost? Smoke??

Hi
No boost car seems to be running fine with that exception. Exhaust is louder, one min working fine with boost then no boost happened this morning and no change on my drive home. I checked all the pipes none have come loose.

It could be the actuator or something related to boost control. Have you got a boost gauge?

Would probably be wise to have the car checked over by a mechanic who works with Subaru engines regularly then. Any fault codes stored in the ECU?

no fault codes registered, I put ocbII reader on it and nothing showed up. I will speak to Andy at Richard Henry Auto's in Bradford, just thought I would try to see if anyone else had a similar problem and if there was an easy fix.
Thank for your help

Sorry to hear about the turbo playing up, if you need a td04 I have one here if needed, but hopefully you can fix your problem. I don't want a lot for it just cleaning my garage out. Good luck!

I know this sounds like a stupid suggestion, but when i did my apprenticeship we has a hilux with the same issue, no power and louder exhaust. it turned out to be a hole in the exhaust.
It might be worth checking.

If the exhaust has just got louder at the same time, i would be looking in the direction of the manifold and up pipe and the associated gaskets.
On the flip side i would check your dump valve as well, if that has stuck open all the boost pressure will be released as it is being made. And it would also be drawing air through it on vacuum which would create a loud intake sound, that could be misinterpreted as exhaust noise with the bonnet down.

Possible uppipe leak when the two halves pull apart. You won't see any leak due to the heat shielding.
