I've been talking to someone about seeing there hatch STI this weekend, One thing he did mention was that he is putting in about 1 litre of oil per 10000 done in it. Is this normal consumption for a hatch or something to avoid?

I would say that's about average. 1,000 miles would be a concern, but not 10k

 

1ltr per 1000 miles is the limit, any more then thats not great news as it's pointing towards internal issues

 

Id be happy if my 2.5 only used a litre in 10k mile lol, mine would use that in about 3k!

 

For starters I wouldn't change the oil every 10k miles but yes 1lt every 10k miles is fine.

oil change every 5k so you wont notice it.

 

1ltr in 10000 miles. Take it he is only doing 1 oil change per 10K miles then. Not the greatest of things to be doing on a 2.5 motor. However saying that, the consumption is better then average. Do you know if the motor is standard or forge? If Forge then that is actually really good.

 

I reckon I top my oil up 1Ltr every 1000 miles that I do.......

i wouldnt worry if it hasnt failed yet it will shortly the standard 2.5 is a turd of an engine.

 

Unless un modified, then I am told it is not powerful enough to pull the skin off a rice pudding let alone blow a gasket.

so no need to worry on that one

 

Don't believe everything you hear, Plenty of standard ones have gone pop too.

 

It's the same old same old ....

When some asks about a 2.5 very one say they all blow up.

When you post that a 2.5 has reached 100k you get told in standard form they haven't got the power to blow up....
