Default Ok What Happened to my WRX :\

Hi All,

Very weird one here if anyone could throw a few pointers across

anyway i changed my oil prob a month ago and have done around 500 miles since.

anyway i left the car outside for 4 days undriven through the bits of rain we have had, anyway the night before i planned to take it out, i thought i best go check everything is ok.

So started the car no problem ran for only like a min, turned it off for the night.

Anyway 24 hours later i start it up, start moving and the car is just like juddering/missing like its only running on 1 clyinder, i pop the bonnet i can see the engine like jumping.

i turn her off, check the oil, the stick seemed dry, but i though nah cant be must just be clear oil.

Started it a couple more times then left it for 5 mins, and then it fired and ran ok, checked the oil stick it only showed a SMALL amount of oil on the stick.

i thought WTF, put in maybe half a litre of oil and then it showed over the Max Mark??

it been fine over the weekend and yesterday, so i bought some of the piston cleaner stuff you put in your tank, hoping it was just from the crap oil before the change.

anyone have any input?

If it's a classic it sounds like your HT leads shorting out from moisture.

If you start your engine from cold then turn it straight off it can take a while for the oil to drain back down giving a very false reading.

If half a litre of oil brought it up to the max then it wasn't very low.

I used some holts damp start to seal the coil packs after I installed new plugs - have done for all my cars and had no moisture problems so far (on a bugeye)

Yep its probably because you ran it for 1 min then switched it off. it would still be burning off the fuel from the cold start. Then youve started it today cold again and the ecu has loaded it with another load of fuel. now its flooded. The miss firing, coughing, splutering is cos the plugs are probably wet once its burnt the excess of there normally fine again. Very common with modern systems
