Default safe boost setting on 52 plate wrx

Hi All,
First of all as im a newby.
About 9 months ago i bought a 52 plate wrx which has some small mods that im wondering if they are safe. It has pink injectors fitted which the previous owner told me was an upgrade and it is running 1.4 bar of boost on a manual boost controller. can anbody advise if this is ok or if i should have it checked out before?
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike. And welcome

Firstly don't alter the boost at all until a few things have been decided

Assuming your mods have been done correct, the car should have been remapped, and I assume it has a bigger than standard turbo (TD04) as the injectors would need ideally remapping for.

List your full spec, and a remap is by far the only route to take to get the best of your car whilst safe guarding the internals of your engine

Thanks Rob,
As far as the mods go on the engine they are as follows.

TD05 turbo
stainless steel 3" cat back exhaust
K&N viper induction kit
Pink injectors
Manual boost control

That is all the mods that i am aware of but i am considering putting a TD04 back on as the TD05 turbo is a bit laggy.

Thanks
Mike

if it`s been mapped why would it still require the MBC?
1.1 bar would be the highest Id set it at with no way to check anything.

The TD05 you have, is it a 16G, 18G or 20G?

If I was to fit a TD05 to a WRX, I would suggest putting on a AF20g, Harvey 20G os SC version, with the required ingredients to make the turbo work for optimal efficiency.

Your list suggests to me it's been remapped, if not I'd be concerned slightly.

The WRX has a Cat in the turbo Up-pipe, has this been removed? if not an STI Uppipe is as good as any for the money spent £30 ish. The WRX cat is quite restrictive, and in almost every WRX upgrade in power it's removed, if your isn't it would stand to reason with you spool concerns.

I'd park it up, think about your planned power target, and then get the parts together and arrange a remap to be safe, and kill two birds with one stone. As a remap could set you back £350+

STIG is right, why have a manual boost controller if its been mapped.

How do you know what boost it's running?

Welcome, sounds to me like it's not been mapped which would explain why it's laggy.

As for safe boost, it's not uncommon for them to be MAPPED to 1.5 bar, but I stress mapped, I'd get it booked in with a mapper if I were you, just to be on the safe side, it will be £300 well spent and a damned sight cheaper than a rebuild.

Mike,

Everyone is emphasising it needs a remap bud, I'd get this done ASAP if your planning on leaving the car as it is. However to get the best potential out of your setup I'd replace the Uppipe with an STI one, and then get it mapped. Some poorly built (china copies usually) TD05's are pretty poor, hence laggy. So it all depends how you want to proceed, but either way a remap is definitely needed.

Re MOT, it all depends where you go, I've never had any issues in 9 years of ownership

Ok thanks for the advice, i think i will turn the boost down for now remove the up pipe and get it remapped. As far as the turbo is concerned it has Mitsubishi in the exhaust housing so i think it is an early scooby turbo with a modified compressor housing (90 degree changed to straight.

Any one know of any mappers in East Sussex that are capable of mapping scoobys?

Thanks again.
Mike
