I have started rebuilding my 2003 EJ205 engine and hit the first stumbling block! How far in does the rear oil seal go? It doesn't look like it should go all the way, but there is no seat for it. The shop manual is no help as it just shows a picture of special service tools. Currently I have it flush with the face.

taking a engine apart now .looking at the one i have it sticks in 3mm

Flush with the block.

It must go flush with the block as mentioned above or oil will **** out everywhere.
