VF35 cracked
Just bought a VF35 to upgrade my WRX of ebay advertised as good condition with no play or cracks in the housing. It's in good condition but I've found a small crack from the waste gate port about 1cm long right through the housing. What should i do, will it be ok pushing out about 330BHP ? I've contacted the seller and he says there were no cracks when he inspected it before selling but this wouldn't have occurred during transit, no other damage to the turbo !

Don't think it will be ok, I think the boost will most likely be all over the place with the crack.
A good welder will be able to weld it back up though, or find another none cracked housing for it.

Had a look on google, looks like its a very common problem on all VF turbos. apparently the crack seals when it gets hot and doesn't cause a problem. How do they crack at the waste gate port, seems an odd place to go ?!

Personally I would not fit a turbo with a crack as it will eventually get worse and the last thing you want to experience is boost creep. My honest opinion is send it back for a full refund and slate the con artist for his lies and been dishonest and spend the £600 on a decent low mileage VF34 as mentioned earlier in this thread.

9 out of 10 VF35 turbo's running on the road will have hairline cracks,it is a particular common problem with that make of turbo but the turbo will still function fine. The cracks usually turn up around the wastegate housing on the exhaust side of the turbo.SJ.

I had a crack in my vf35 and seen a power figure of 367bhp I had no issues with it at all for the two yr it was on before putting a 20g on. Wouldn't
worry about it to much but I would push for some money back. Say it's cost you £150 to get it repaired as it would need to be cast welded which is a bit specialist apparently.
