Why do you want to introduce lag?

Unless you want the intercooler for looks, I wouldn't bother with it, the TMIC on the Newage STi's are good for 450bhp, more than your turbo is capable of. If you introduce a FMIC, you'll just get more turbo lag, with very little (if any) benefit.

3" is the best way for ultimate power delivery .would stick with the top mount alot more responsive although front mounts are good on certain cars/set ups

A good FMIC setup and mapped correctly will not introduce lag at all.

While it is possible to get 450bhp on an STI top mount it is a dam long way from optimal. No matter what the turbo it will have cooler charge temps with almost any FMIC over an STI TMIC, cooler charge temps= capable of more power.

Also the general consensus is that 400bhp on the sti top mount and it is becoming a limiting factor. (I believe there is one guy on here running 487bhp with an STI top mount, but that could easily be 520 or more with an FMIC instead.)

Steer clear of an Ebay FMIC and you cant go too far wrong these days.

As to the OP's original question, 3" for more top end power , If you plan on tracking your car regularly and will aim for more power in the future then an FMIC is a wise investment.
