Getting the most out of whats there
Car:
2003 JDM STI Twin Scroll
Engine Mods:
ECUTek
Full 3" De-Cat
K&N air filter
RCM intake
Walbro 255
Power:
370bhp/375lbs
I'd just like to know what small improvement mods can be done to increase performance without making big changes like turbo etc.
For example, would a set of GT spec headers increase power and/or spool up?
Would bigger injectors make any difference without changing the turbo or fuel pump - or indeed change both injectors and fuel pump?
Would a different ECU mean ability to map more aggressively?
Any and all comments welcome

Wouldnt recommend changing the twin scroll headers.. they are really good.
standard ecu is really good, maybe a megarom and twin maps and the second on meth?
Although one of the most recent memorable fun cars to drive after remap was same car on a syvecs with injectors and lm420

Thanks guys.
I wouldn't want to make any big changes as loving the twin scroll, but just wondered if there were any little tweaks that'd give a touch more.

if it was mapped a while ago it wouldnt hurt to get it checked power output wise and see if there is more possible..
where and when was the 370/375 achieved?

It was mapped recently and sorry I forgot to mention a Zero Sport thermostat was just fitted.
Its had a paddle clutch fitted and lightened flywheel... soon to have a full titanium exhaust system. Trying to save weight to increase performance that way.
Other than that reducing engine heat... so turbo blanket is now on the shopping list thank you

I would have thought 'easy' mods would be along the lines of fuel pump and FPR. Adding this to my car (already had injectors) made it run rich and the mapper got more out of it. Maybe a cold air feed (altho some studies show little or no gain), make sure your TMIC is healthy, ensue the car is well serviced, light weight pulleys can help,
Heat mods shoulnt really assist your RR figure as your car should be run when the oils at temp but little or no heat soak being suffered. Altho I am a big believer in heat mods to help 'on the road' performance.
The cheapest way to guarantee an increase in power would probably be to run a meth map........only cost is a remap? Obviously you need to buy the meth but it shouldn't work out any more expensive then V-Power is / litre
You might not see much but its little spend and little hassel for some gain which is what you seem to be asking.

I think you're right, a meth map is something I hadnt considered as I admit to not knwoing too much about it...
It'd require its own pump and lines run in to the fuel system + having its own map.
Then you'd have a meth tank in the boot I assume and when you switch maps, the normal fuel & pump would stop and it'd activate the meth pump and run purely off that?

So put 10litres of meth in the tank and fill with vpower and change the map.

Per JGM, just mix the correct ratio to your fuel. So you cant switch maps 'on the fly'. The method your explaining is more of a nitrous set up. But it works well. I have a V-power only map for weekdays, Then on a Friday throw 20L of V power in and a fuel can of Meth (5L)......something for the weekend

Yeah I keep telling my bro to get rid of his air con... the pump does weigh a fair bit and how often do we get any heat in this country to need air con that badly?
The car has a K&N cone filter already. I guess it wouldnt hurt to clean the maf good point I should do that really anyway.
Would the Harvey Trick up-pipe fit on a twin scroll? I know the down pipe side of the turbo is a different flange type, what about the up-pipe side of the turbo, same as all the others or diff also?

Apologies for the slight thread sabbotage...
Simon, would you say that a TS billet SC40 (or Twin Entry LM400 series) turbo would be less laggy than my old (non-billet) TD05H 20g? Bearing in mind the STi 5 heads.
I already have the sump/dipstick/baffles (bought off you!), OEM TS headers/up-pipe -- just need a custom GC8 TS d/p fabricated.
I know that they are more linear and that the torque doesn't 'feel as fat' as a single scroll - but not bothered.

lol Perfect answer!
In that case, how would the 'bigger' billet TS SC42 (or LM420 - is there such a model?) compare to the SS non-billet 20g?
Also, would it be wise to also fit 650cc or 740 injectors (rather than my 550s), before the remap?

yes and yes.. lol
sorry got a bit more time to type a proper reply.
the sc42 seems to be a very good turbo and out performs its expected power output and spools very well.. it seems to also work well in twin scroll from.
The LM ones also work well powerwise but the twin entry not twin scroll does hamper spool a little.. beyond 42 size I tend to find the twin scroll spool advantage is gone and you are just gaining the sound.. which you either love or hate.
Yes bigger injectors would be wise but do bear in mind it still a standard stiV engine from memory and we are at 385bhp on it already so 400-420 is going to be pushing it.. but awesome fun.
Yes there is an LM420 btw.

I'll let you off for the hijack Joz
I knew a couple ppl with the TD05 20G and they seemed to live in the land of lag... I have the TD05 18G and thats such a great turbo! Top end its about 20bhp short of the 20G, but you get to use the bhp unlike with the 20G lol
