Default Reason for billet compressor wheel!.

Evening all, basically as the tile says.
What are the main reason for having a billet comp wheel for example put into a td05 20g?.
What is the main benefits?
I know earlier spool, but does anybody have any actually figures for an example? 500/1000 revs earlier for full boost?.
So say heard can make slightly more power with a billet comp?
Any thoughts on this I'd be very grateful or anyone has any direct comparisons that would be perfect.
Cheers Chris

Hi Chris

As above billet wheel is lighter and due this will spool faster than cast wheel

Actual figures, you can have look on older MD321T thread, billet wheel resulted in better spool up and better top end

Usually with billet wheel you will gain like on top end or spool up

If you have chance get billet wheel for yours 20G,I would go with Billet its worth it in my view

I have had some big conversations with my car loving friends at work about this very topic,it's not really that much about the billet material being lighter,it's about that the billet wheels are machined to a higher spec by there design adding this quicker spool up and higher boost capability. It's the material that Garrett turbos use for there specialised turbos, but for the bulk of there turbos a normal cast wheel will still be used in around 95% of there turbos. So really when you are purchasing a billet wheeled turbo it is not really about the material that's being used it's about the Wheel design and the skilled labour that goes into producing them.SJ.

From what i have gathered. The billet wheels are normally a newer tech with fancier aerodynamics on the compressor design, So faster spool due to the light weight and normally higher flowing because of the newer design!

i just swapped from a normal 20G to a Kamak Billet 20G! I LOVE the difference, Much faster spool and flows a lot more air! Car is a new beast now!

Any figures of power your car is making and feedback there is always debates on here about the credibility of such turbos,it would be good to hear a more in depth test of your findings of these makes of turbocharger.SJ.

Sorry no figures! No dyno in Macau which is a right pain in the ***.

But so far I love this turbo a lot. My older 20g didn't have the same feeling at all!
Boost is much faster and violent. And my G tech numbers are showing a lot more grunt!

That's good to hear mate, that's how i love turbo's to spool up aggressively with a lot of low down grunt and midrange,I was driving a GT30/28 roller bearing hybrid and the way that turbo comes in is simply awesome and it allows the car to pick up its heels very quickly,it's on my wife's car now.SJ.

The viscous kick in the back when we hit boost is why we all love turbos!
