Welcome, a 96 STi hatchback? guessing you guys refer to wagons as hatchbacks maybe? :P Anyway air filter wise, two schools of thought, either stick with the standard paper filters but just replace them often, or go with the likes of Green, K&N, Cosworth panel filters in the original airbox, induction kits are generally avoided unless your car is Mafless.

Always run it on super unleaded.

Ps. There's only one Z in Impreza :-)

I ran a K and N panel filter for 2 years then changed it for a short ram and performs just as good, if not ( just buy a heat guard to stop the engine sucking in hot air. As for fuel if its a jap import you shud run it on highest octane possible. This is because in japan they dont have an octane lower than 99-100 so cars are made to use it.. uk models are ok to run on 95... BUT... i always run 97+ for performance and it helps keep fuel system cleaner!
