Hi guys my engine sounds abit tappity like someones tapping and it gets abit quicker when you put your foot on the accelerater what could this be is it serious???

Take it to your nearest Subaru specialist and get them to have a look their is only so much that can be diagnosed by just reading words especially when it comes to engine noises I know personally they can sound a bit tappity on first start up especially when it's cold,ask yourself a few question does it perform the same does the noise go away when the car is warmed up or get louder,etc...but if it is really still concerning you,definitely get it looked at properly by a specialist.SJ.

It still performs ok only had the car 1 week now just dont know much about these engines so was abit worried thats all it only gets louder when you put rev the car

Does it quite down when it's up to temp?It is definitely coming from the engine if the sound increase with revs,the fact that you are new to the car and don't know to much about them never try to play the guessing game as it could all end in tears get it to a Subaru specialist,what area do you live in?

I have had a classic before with the cdb engine and that didnt sound the same as this one i only noticed today on my way to work i will have a listen again on way home but its at rotherham scoobies on tuesday.

As above they can be a bit tinkly on first start up particularly this time of year, check it when warm.

Have a good listen when you next start it up,listen to see if the sound is the same even when engine temps are up,also check your oil level as well,if you think there is still noise drive with plenty of mechanical sympathy until you get to your specialist of choice,and don't miss that appointment on tuesday.SJ.

Keep an eye on your oil level, piston problems are the favorite with the 2.5, if it starts consuming oil it's probably cracked a piston.

Could also be injectors - my STI injectors were really loud, but never gave any issues (apart from the noise). Noise was still there cold or warm on mine.

Could be injectors, my alternator has always made unusual sounds.
