Default how to get boost at low rpm? auto scooby

hi im new to the site my brother owns a 2001 subaru impreza wrx triptonic jdm. the car is only a 4 speed and the turbo comes in around 3800. is there anyway to get the boost to come in at a lower rpm around 1800-2000rpm? we dont like revving it past 5000 just to be safe because im always reading about the engines going at high rpm. any help would be much appreciated? we only got the trip tonic as my brother is disabled so has an auto license.

You could get the car remapped and use a electronic boost controller to set the boost to come in a lot sooner.

Turbo lag is foreplay and is fun

Have a word with Alyn at A S Performance about the Harvey up-pipe and a remap. Mine spools to 1 bar at 2800 or lower. And that's with a TD05 20g.

I would suspect on yours there is somewhere leak or you have fitted oversized up pipe, some mods which shouldn't be there etc.

Can you please post the mods what yours car have

Thanks

Kind regards,Jura

first of all, congrats to your brother. It's very rare to have a SportShift Auto WRX

In tiptronic / sportshift mode, the car should become much more lively

ALSO, in normal auto, try the POWER button, on the snowflake rocker switch. Does boost come in any earlier?

I've not driven mine much yet so can't confirm if the POWER button will kick in at a lower RPM, mine's only got a standard peashooter exhaust on it and i think you're right, in boring mode it probably is around 3800rpm before boost, maybe it's 3500 I'll have to go for a drive and see.

thanks mate they are quite rare in uk. in normal auto mode the car is sluggish and lazy. in power mode the car is only slightly faster but still slow compared to other scoobys ive owned and driven. our old 1996 wrx auto estate was faster, had much more torque and boost came in early. In triptonic its more lively but still have to rev it quite abit to get the power out of it.

also should add its had a full engine rebuild couple months ago as the bottom end was knocking after a long motorway drive! gearbox was also reconditioned 6 months ago. basically the cars had a major overhaul only thing letting it down is power.

Jura mentioned a possible oversized up pipe, a possibility? Also have exhaust mods etc been done?

Have it mapped, someone once told me bob rawle had an edge on experience with mapping auto scoobs. I have not phoned any mappers yet.

Hi there

In standard form JDM WRX 4EAT Tiptronic should have 250bhp,in our case our wagon has have CEL(Check engine Light front O2 sensor has been damaged),when wagon has been on rollers, without the CEL,not sure how much will make, but I would say close to 240bhp

If engine has been rebuild'd then I would get car check at least if everything is OK and get car on rollers(RR),this at least pin point where can be issue

Do you know at least what boost you are making at what RPM?

What turbo you are running, are you sure you are running still TD04?

There are lots of other bits where I would have look, like AVCS if its running or not or if AVCS is plugged or not

Really my recommendation please visit Subaru specialist and RR and get car at least check,if everything is fine

Yours car should have AVCS,TD04 as standard

Jura
