Fuel consumption
Hi all, second question of the night, had my 06 2.5l Hawkeye for seven months now and loving every minute ; ) the car is my everyday runner so been running it on 95 octane, it has been serviced, loved and everything seems fine. Now obviously I understand that if you toe it every where then the fuel consumption is going to be bad. This past month I have been driving very carefully to try and save some money and I'm still only getting about 80ish miles to half a tank ? Now I totally get the fact that I have purchased a Sports car and economy and going fast don't mix lol, but when I'm not driving quickly which is the majority of the time I would hope the mpg to be a bit better any suggestions ???

80 miles lol best I've had is about 350 driving it like an old woman, usual 280ish. I can get 100 miles out of the first quarter of a tank! 95 ron is a big no no though, stick to v power / 99!

Got to be running with at least BP ultimate 97 Ron. As above only use v power or tesco momentum. It should state in the manual it can run on 95, but if available use 98 and above. Regarding mpg sounds really low about 12-15mpg? Even if its a gas guzzling sti

You'll notice an increase in MPG and probably power running it on 99, just stick with Tesco Momentum or Shell V-Power and get digging around the forum for more info. Not sure if you'll have done it any damage but I can't imagine it's done it too much good either.

Mine isn't much better, 05'STI on Momentum99 gets about 200 between fill ups, but then I never let the fuel light come on so might have another 75 in the bag for all I know

I've got MY06 hawk Sti , and is exactly the same on fuel like yours , but i run my car on v-power all the time
Driving really gently I can get up to 200miles per tank , but I don't like to drive it gently so normally I get 150 to160 miles per tank (55L)

I'm the same. 06 STI. Running on 97, haven't tried 99 but might give it a go on the next tank. I was at about 100 for just under half, but driving like a granny and only doing short 6/7 mile runs to and from work. At 130 miles now and about 1/3 left as i was ragging it a little.
Maybe i have a hole in my tank, i certainly do in my wallet...

Once i'm down low, going to do a fun runs of Shells top stuff, see if i can make a difference. I'll be very happy if i can break 200miles/tank without trying too hard.

Right, so most of you who have replied have STI's and as stated in the owners manual you have to run it on 98 or better. Mine is just a standard WRX and it says that 95 or better is to be used and it says this also on the label on the inside of the fuel filler cap. So surely it's ok to use it in my car and higher octane is just a performance bonus. I'm going to start using momentum now as there is a tesco local to me but I'm worried now that I've unknowingly done damage.

Fill to the brim so showing over full on gauge.
50 mile I am at the full mark
95 mile at the 3/4
170 at half a tank
220 / 230 at 1/4 tank and that where I refill to the brim.
Over the last 238 days I have averaged 27.18 mpg
None of this is by any means scientific.....

I have a 2.5 STi hawk, and I regularly get between 220-250 miles per tank, and that's often before the fuel light comes on. It's always run on V-Power and that equates to between 23-25mpg. Albeit i dont drive like a hooligan, but hearing people getting way less than 200 miles/tank must mean your driving it like you stole it all the time!
What I find strange about my fuel gauge, is it often drops to 3/4 full mark having done around 30 miles, the final 3/4 of a tank gets me around 190-220 miles. cant make sense of it

Jesus some of you guys really need to look at your driving style, i've really got to be hoofing it to get less than 200 miles down to a 1/4 of a tank, I regularly see 260 miles down to the 1/4 mark and that's not pootling either, mine is a 2.0L WRX PPP so not the most economical either.
Sounds like your all revving them to beyond 3k in the low gears, you 2.5L boys should be able to waft along on a carpet of torque below 2.5k rpm quite easily and with the longer hawk ratio's cruising speeds on motorway should see you above 80 mph at 3000 rpm.
Are you guy's not using over run to save fuel going down hill? sounds like some of you could also do with investing in a boost gauge so you can see where your boosting and sucking the juice.
Don't get me wrong I do drive my car, but I don't see the point in hoofing it just to get from A to B on a daily basis I just leave the house 5 mins earlier and pay attention to my right foot/boost gauge and save fuel for the fun times when there's no one around, that's what I do anyway.

I think the thing that's not helping me is lots of stop-starting on my 6 mile commute.
Because it's only my commuter (and toy when i get a chance) at the moment i'm burning lots of juice. However, i'm going to run a full tank of 99 with my annoying rev beep set at 2,500 so remind me to shift.

If you worry about fuel consumption , then subaru and remaps are not 4 you

FYI, fuel injected cars don't use ANY fuel on over run so why would you press the gas and waste fuel when you don't have to, leave it in 5th and you do pretty much the same speed with your foot off the gas.
If you want to p!ss your money up the wall that's your choice, I chose to spend mine wisely and still have fun with both of my subarus.
