Default What can stop a turbo boosting ?

Ok so air enters through the filter then through the maff into the turbo and as far as I can see a turbo is a manual device not electronic ? So technically the air going in should make the turbo spool ? So if it's not and you know the turbo is ok then what is going on ?

Thoughts ?

the turbo is driven by exhaust gas on the hot side. This draws in cold air on the cold side (compressor) via the inlet tract (air filter, pipework and MAF in some cases)

Whats the problem?

if you are asking why is your car not making boost and you know for sure your turbo is ok.
it could be.
boost leak from pipes,crack/hole in intercooler
defective waste gate
defective waste gate actuator
recirculating valve/dump valve
faulty boost valve
and so on,what boost are you making????

Ok not getting any boost except 0.2 but im not exactly confident that's boost at all.

I have checked the following:

All Pipework - All Ok
Wastegate & Turbo - Tested All Ok
Dump Valve Replaced - Tested All Ok
Boost Soleniod Replaced - Tested All Ok

have done a diagnostics and the only fault shown was 02 sensor but to be honest that has no bearing on turbo boost as far as i know.

Car drives like a non turbo but travels through the revs fine and apart from the boost missing you would not suspect an issue at all.

Depending on what version you have and whether check engine light is on it does cut boost.

im going to disconnect the front mount to rule it out altogether as i have the original top mount one still just so i can rule it out, im actually amazed with how much effect a possible air leak can have !

see if you can block one end off a pressurise it. check welds with washing up liquid. a small hole will be enough to let off your boost. how much pre load did your waste gate have?

glad to hear it, even if the one you have has boost issues you will still look better driving it than that silver one.let us know if you find anything wrong with the front mount.

had the same last year on mine. turbo was toast and not spooling up. in my case the lambda sensor cap broke off and went through the exhaust port of the tubby and smashed the internal parts of the turbine wheel to pieces..when removed from the car you couldn't tell at all as from the outside it looked fine. once stripped you could see the damage.

if you had a leak you would hear it hiss when moving.

i vote turbo has toasted itself.

FINALLY !

Mystery bloody well solved and boost is back with a vengeance sitting at 0.8 - 0.9 psi ! Get In !

Turns out that the sponge filter on the end of the maff was in fact too thick and was causing all the issues, took it out to check all was clean and forgot to put it back in whilst giving it a test up the road and booooomm ! Rocket

Got back and noticed filter was still out so changed it for a thinner one and again ran perfectly !

Happy is not the word lol
