Default blobeye wrx or sti

hey,
I am thinking about getting my first Subaru. I am looking at a blobeye (for the cheaper tax). I have spent ages searching through threads and reading them but I still cant decide what to go for.

I do a lot of motorway miles so I was swaying towards the wrx, but I now believe the sti has a 6 speed box and the wrx doesn't. So maybe the sti would be better for the motorway run. (im not sure on the ratios)

Is there a massive difference on mpg between the two? the book figures show 10 mpg difference extra urban. But I am aware these figures are useless.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

Yes there is a big difference, the Wrx is way better on fuel and a much nicer place to be softer suspension, 5 speed has longer ratios and will see 34mpg without too much effort, the STI will struggle to see 28mpg driving VERY carefully.

however, like most once you actually get one and decide on modding it, NEARLY everyone starts adding all the bits you get as standard on the sti, also the sti will take more power, and cheaper to get more power from, 8/10 people I know that have bought a wrx over an sti have said should have bought the sti to start with as in the long run has cost more!

Unless you're wanting 400bhp it won't matter what you get. Ideally If I started again, I'd like the more stylish STI with a 5 speed box.

Power wise I just stuck a £70 TD05 16g on and the 80kg (200kg now ) heavier STI can't get anywhere close.

I always wanted and STi, wouldn't entertain the thought of a WRX, I now own a WRX and it has more than you need on the road tbh, if you drive it ***** to the wall its ****ing rapid!

You will see around 34mpg on the motorway staying off boost and 27mpg round the town if you you're not stopped often.

I'm getting 23mpg now driving enthusicstically...
STI will be around 17mpg with similair driving.

If your doing a lot of miles get a wrx if you want to modify it get an sti
The wrx is more comfortable, the sti is the performance model.
Depends what you are after.

Whichever one you buy just remember that consistent motorway journeys and Blitz Nurspec exhausts should be mutually exclusive

I'm consistently getting more around town than on the motorway

I think it's the pulse driving around town.

I got 40mpg around town today, it was 42.2 before the last lights got me.
On the Motorway at my usual 60mph I've never beat 36mpg over a longish distance.

What causes the STI to be less efficient and are they poles apart even after re-maps? I wouldn't have thought 80kg extra would be a factor.

I'm 5'11 and weigh about 85kg so it's like having someone sat in the car all the time, I definitely notice when someone is sat in my passenger seat, I'd imagine it would knock time off a quarter mile time, hence why you don't see people going down the strip with a passenger.

Some great answers there. Is there any mechanical differences between a wrx and wrx 300 (blob) I am aware of the visual differences.

Cheers

Just worked it out to cost me £66 a weekend in fuel in the wrx and 78 a weekend in the sti. Doing a 380 round trip. That's getting the best fuel out of them.
