Default '99 Type R V5 engine spec?

Hello everyone,

I am after some advice please. I have a '99 three door Type R V5 that I picked up about 6 months ago and it looks like it may now have a cracked block (I am not up on my scooby's but I have heard they occasionally go?).

There appears to be quite a few different specs (open and closed deck etc). Would I be right in assuming a V5 Sti is the same spec (power, torque, manifolds etc). Any help as to what will go straight in is much appreciated. For a standard car it's awesome... when it worked!

Thanks.

Yes the std V5 STI is the same engine, if your going to rea place it with another used short motor go for a 2.0 newage STI as they are stronger.

That is good to know. So I could potentially look at bug eye STi's for a replacement engine with manifolds etc all a straight swap? This is less of a nightmare than I thought!
