Default Am I getting fuel cut?

I've never had this on my previous Imprezas so I'm not sure what it is TBH.

It only seems to happen in 4th or 5th, if I'm driving at a steady speed and accelerate fully you can hear and feel the turbo spooling but then the power jerks on/off several times.

The car is a 98 UK turbo running approx 320 BHP and has been mapped by JGM.

Any ideas guys?

Strangely there has been no sign of any EML on the dash though.

I had a similar thing.
Happened when I was tracking the car and on WOT, would get total power loss at about 5k (I think) in fourth gear.
It was fuel cut caused by over-boosting.
Get JGM to take a look mate.

As above, it's like hitting a brick wall when it happens and no you don't get any indication from the ECU that there is a problem.

Other option is fuel starvation, does it do it with a full tank of petrol?

As above sounds like over boost. Is worse in this cold weather?

Yes, it does it regardless of how much fuel is in it.

It's been cold since I've had the car, so I have nothing to compare to.

I guess this might be a good time to install a boost gauge?

Get it checked before you smash the gearbox.

Might be wise.

However, depending on what boost it was mapped to it may not take much of an overboost to hit fuel cut. EG; It's mapped to 1.5bar, limit of the later MAP sensor is IRO 1.7bar, and depending on where the fuel cut threshold has been seen, say 1.6 bar, you might not notice the overboost on a boost gauge.

For arguments sake, if it was mapped to 1.2bar, and it was showing on a gauge 1.6bar, you'd probably notice that.

Great, I'll drop JGM a message and see if he can take a look then.

Think I'll fit some gauges anyway though.

So in summary get it checked. Any decent mapper will charge less than the cost of a gauge.
Not joking about smashing gearbox especially if a classic box. The sudden power on power off puts massive torque through the drive train.
