Hi all,
Recently brought a standard 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon for the family shared run car.
Overall very happy with the car and feels safe to drive in all conditions (especially with all the rain at the moment). Great versatile car. fuel could be better but we expected this so no complaints.
One issue we have is the noise it delivers standard, it's very tame and we would like a bit of the subaru burble but not too loud as we often visit family 200miles away and drive into Europe. We can't have it droning on the motorway
I have looked at prodrive and Haywood reading old threads and listened to on youtube and they sound pretty noisy if I'm honest - And these are meant to be the quietest!![Brickwall](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/brickwall.gif)
So with that in mind will the noise improve if I replaced one of the down/up pipe cats only?
Or buy a enclosed induction kit?
I do one want to get the car remap so would like the right set up before doing so, looking for 270-280bhp.
We live in Herts so anyone in this area or London who has a upgraded exhaust set up that isn't loud and would be kind enough to offer for viewing, we would be grateful.
Many thanks in advance

A prodrive box is NOT noisy. Its only slightly louder than standard....you could just replace the centre pipe with a straight through one, that will give you some 'noise'...I have a Hayward system and its noisy as hell, a great noise, but noisy!
or buy a proper exhaust. Theres a nice Cobra Sports one going on the for sale section in 3" which will give you a lovely rumble

Just get a Prodrive back box mate, they really are not that loud at all, especially if your retaining the rest of your system. They will however give a nice burble on acceleration.
If your looking to remap to achieve the above results I'd suggest getting a performance panel air filter to, something like 'Green cotton' or similar. Other than that you shouldn't really need much else. I'm not positive you will achieve the full 270-280 as you don't want a upgraded centre pipe but I'm sure a mapper will be on hand to give such advice, plenty of them on this forum.

Thanks for the quick responses,
Really need to hear the prodrive in real life I think rather then listen and judge on youtube. I'll also check the for sale section to see if any are for sale?
I do want to get rid of one Cat but heard the up pipe /down pipe is the best to replace and not the centre?
forgot to mention I did change the standard filter to a KnN filter panel only because the original needed changing, didn't think that makes too much difference.
Sorry new to turbo cars, on the wrx prodrive package they also replace a hose off the intercooler? I was thinking of doing this too but not sure why it helps and where to purchase?
Look forward to any club meets, obviously have a lot to ask and learn

Yes mate get rid of the uppipe cat and change it for a decat. The cats in the newage wrx up pipes are known for breaking there welds internally and rattling around. Eventually they can break up and head straight in to the turbo, mine did this but I caught it before it broke up to bad. This will aid in the remap process also.
As for the intercooler pipe, wouldn't both. Better off keeping an eye on the parts for sale section for a 2nd hand STI TMIC.
The K&N should give you more horses with a remap to suit, it lets the air flow quicker.
Plenty of clubs in your area, MSOC, Bucks and Beds Scoobies to name a few.

I've got a milltek cat back and a jap speed de cat down pipe, it's pretty quiet when just cruising along or on the motorway but does give some nice noise when at full throttle. I'm in Sutton if you are in the area and want to come and give it a listen

Keep your eyes open for a second hand Prodrive back box, they really are fairly quiet just adding enough volume to let you know whats under the bonnet! I think they look the part too, not too large a tailpipe and go well with the wagon.

Yes one of the upgrades items I am looking forward to. How soon after the decat does it require doing or does the existing ecu system adjust in the mean time?
Any recommendations on a remap and expected costs?

Racedynamix is fully recommended and charges £350 for a remap on the road.
I would recommend a Scorpion cat back exhaust with Imola tailpipe, you can tell it's a Subaru alright but you don't get any drone on the motorway.
You can come and listen to my 2003 WRX if you want - I am in High Wycombe

Yes PM details
I did think the weather but it's been like that since I first remember using the sat Nav in the subaru last month. I will try the Sat Nav in the elise and see how it goes. I see quite a few people on the motorway using the sat Nav with no problems also no reports from Garmin about issues..
Thanks, I got the car on the rollers at SRR recently so time to start doing the little bits and pieces
