does anyone know of any head unit that combines a minidisc and cd player?

 

There was a JVC unit that did it in a damn clever way... Dunno if it's still available, but it was well reviewed. This must be, ooh, 4 years ago at least.

There's also double din Kenwoods that I've seen available in Japan that will do this, but nothing yet from them in the UK.

I have one from Panasonic (MD and CD) but it's double DIN...
Are you looking for single or double DIN's?

Panasonic (and Kenwood) also has a single DIN unit that plays CD, CD-R/RW, MD, MDLP and has a nice display.
The official price is 94500 yen but since it has been around for some time now, you can surely find it for half the price. (to give you an example, my unit CQ-VX7700D official price is 128000yen, I got it for 50000yen)
