Kicker Amp
#1
Hi All,
This is my first post and also my first ICE install, so go easy on me :-).
I've been reading the forum and the FAQ for a while as I wanted to upgrade the sounds in my MY00. The advice here is just superp and so helpful!
I finally went for a new head unit (Pioneer) and Infinity 605CS for the front with an amp and sub. Am in the process of fitting now, just as soon as it stops raining....
The infinity's dropped straight in using the existing mounting with only a minor trim of the splash guard.
My first question concerns the amp I was sold, its a 5 channel Kicker IX405D - anyone have any experience with one of these? Its rated at 4x40W and 1x200W RMS, but reading this board I should be aiming for 90W through the Infinity's. Is this amp bridageble and will it be powerful enough?
Also as I'm planning to use decent cable, how on earth do you get the cable through the doors to the speakers? Is it just a case of greasing the cables and working them through?
Any help gratefully received.
Cheers,
James.

You don't need to worry about the amp not being powerfull enough it's whether the speakers can take the power from the kicker amp.
I have used these amps and the power quoted on tehbox is totaly different from the actual, Helps when you go into comp's and there is a limit to wattage you use.
I had a zx240 which is rated 2x60 and i ran three 12" subs and hit a 152.3db in a spl competition a few years back.
In my opinion kicker merchandise is excellent VFM there subs are V good but front end components are not of the same quality as the subs unless you go for the high end spec

it'll be fine, IMHO.
As a general note, a small underpowered amp will damage speakers quicker than a large amp. Reason is that an underpowered amp will "clip" when you turn the gain up too much, meaning that the signal will have a large DC component. This'll heat the voice coil up and eventually burn it out...
But I would think that 45W RMS is more than enough for front door speakers...
