Just got my car back from having a system fitted and when turned up to half volume, it seems the CD Changer jumps.

I thought this was due to the amount of air the sub was shifting...but when I open the boot it still does it, but not as much. I spoke to the guy who fitted it and he said the gain on the amp is on full.

Is the amp clipping due to the load on it...Should I turn the gain down ??

Help please as it is really p#ssing me off as I have just spend a fortune on this lot and want it to sound sweet...cheers

By the way the amp is a little white Caliber unit.

If someone's fitted it, get them to sort it out. This is one of the joys of paying someone else.

If you start fiddling and something stops working, you'll find the installer points the finger at you.

If you can get down to the installer, get there

A mate did it for me...very good at this sort of stuff and when I called him, he reckoned it was the gain as the amp was working so hard it was clipping....said turn it down 1/4 of a turn and that will sort it.

Said I really need a better amp which I have already been told by the Sound Gallery....Just wanted to check to make sure this will sort it before I go out on my next *** break and do it...

Cheers

P.S Any recommendations on a 2 channel amp....thinking about a kicker...

Oh I see mate. Right, in that case wind the amp down as it will be clipping.

That in itself shouldn't make your CD changer jump. What's the changer mounted to?

Cheers I will give that a bash...am sure it will stop it. CD Changer is mounted to the top of the boot....it is an M3 so boot is well sealed...but still sounds pretty damn good.

Also any suggestions on a bigger amp...going to get one next week....then another sub...really been bitten by the ice bug

CarAudioDirect.com had a "cadvent" calendar last year with special offers on each day of advent - wait for that if u can, and see what comes up

Changers, by and large, only skip when their mounting isn't as solid as it should be. If you can tighten it up to the boot any more, or pack it out to make sure it doesn't move, then do that.

Cheers,
Nick.

Thanks nick...CD Charnger is mounted really well....I reckon it could be the amp clipping which is making it sound like the cd player is jumping.

Also going to have a look in the back of a few mags and get a 2 channel Kicker...or maybe if funds allow a nice silver Genisis

Don't know about the M3, but I had nightmares with my Alpine unit skipping in the Scoob. It ran in my Golf GTi for 6 months skip free, so I mounted it at the back of the boot. Straightaway it started skipping at the slightest bump. I moved it below the parcel shelf and it did the same.

I finally tried it right behind the rear seat and it never skipped again in the 2 years I had it.

The rear seats are directly over the rear suspension, so I simply put it down to better damping.

It might be an idea to unbolt the changer and sit it in a box in your boot as close to the rear seats as possible. You should be able to quickly tell if the changers jumping or if it's the amp clipping.

Stefan's also hit the nail on the head too - mount the changer as far away from suspension mounting as you can. Mine's under the passenger seat and has yet to jump, ever...

Cheers chaps, but need the mounting as I had it there in my 328 i Sport and that never jumped..due to the fact I didn't have a sub.

Turned the gain down on the amp and that sorted it...not powerful enough...

Next purchase. New two channel amp.
