Have just got a UK STi7 with standard head unit decribed in the manual as Type A and Kenwood CD Changer. Spoke to the guy in car stereo shop and as I already have the kenwood CD Changer he recommended either to get one of the Kenwood CD Receivers or get the Alpine CD receiver with MP3 support so that the CD Changer wouldnt then be a problem as with MP3 I would not need it. He also recommended not to do anything with the speakers until after changing the head unit as I am not an audiophile so that maybe enough and if not just come back and change the speakers.
Anybody done this and if so which one did you go with and are you satisfied
thanks

Haven't done that specifically. However, I would disagree with the not changing the speakers idea. Putting in decent front speakers will give a bigger sound improvement per £ than upgrading the head unit. I'd also recommend fitting sound deadening in the doors; dynamat, noisekiller or something similar, as the doors are very tinny and hold back the sound qulity. £50 of deadening with £100ish speakers in the front doors will make a very big difference to the sound quality even with your existing head unit. All IMHO, of course
My head unit combination here works very well and is great value too, as an alternative source.

have to agree really.
head unit is shocking. Change it for a decent kenwood one as you've got the changer and it would be silly not to use it... MP3 does in some ways make it redundant, but I'd use it all the same.
The speakers are pants. You will want to change the fronts for definite - budget on 100 -130 quid for a damn good pair if you fancy a great upgrade.
That little lot will mean you've got a decent sounding system
Nick.
