Secure that Sub
#1
Just thought I'd share my solution for securing my sub woofer that wasn't too keen on going round corners.
I didn't fancy screwing my sub box down as I wanted to be able to take it out fairly quickly and with ease. I initially tried to 'strap' it in with a bungee cord but it's so heavy it was still sliding about all over the place
While rummaging around in the garage I came across some spare bits left over from when our new kitchen was installed, including some plastic black 'feet' that are used to support the cupboards on the kitchen floor. These are adjustable to compensate for uneven surfaces etc. and can be wound in or out to alter the height.
Hey presto:
It doesn't budge an inch, even on the fastest corners!
The best bit is when you want to take it out you just wind it down and out she pops.
You can probably pick these up from MFI for next to nothing...

Just to add, the bungee cord is now redundant. I think I might try to get another support so I can use one at each end, although it's rock solid with just the one in the middle.

Another solution is to build a wooden floor for everything to stand on, you then can screw your amps etc into it and this raises the floor. Looking at the size of your sub, is similar to mine. You can squeeze the sub between the floor and the seat back/ski hatch, whatever you want to call it. The bit that is left when the seats are folded down. To be honest, this was more luck than judgement but it works. No holes in the scoob and a secure system. HOORAH!!

Yeah, the bass is so solid now - I actually had to turn it down a bit! I think this is more secure than screwing it down, as it is wedged between two solid points on the car.
RE: False floor/permanent screwing down, this was not really an option as I need to be able to get three sets of golf clubs in the boot most weekends.
Even if I did screw it down I think I would still use one of these to solidify the whole set up. Might not be to pretty to look at but since when have Scoobies been easy on the eye (I actually think they are nice looking cars ).

Hi Paul,
I thought of velcro, but how is your carpet fastened down? My carpet is quite loose as I can just lift it up with my hand. Velcro would probably stop mine sliding but it would still 'hop' while going over bumps etc.
As it stands, it ain't going nowhere.

Jamie,
Before i started i glued the carpet to the bodywork in all four corners after stretching it tight. Then when i had made sure it would not move i fitted the velcro.
Turned out really well.I'm running a 10'' JL Audio sud with a Velocity V504 Amp attached to the rear of the back seats of my Wagon, along with Focal Access 165a fronts with separate tweeters and crossovers and standard rears.Sound is devastating.
Regards
Paul.

Paul, I'd personally secure the sub a bit better. I've seen pictures of what happens when a sub box gets involved in an accident... With the weight of a sub, it wants to carry on moving when a car stops suddenly.
It can quite easily come through the back seats of the car as those clips aren't terribly strong...
Nick.
