feedback problem

A friend of mine has fitted a new stereo in his motor with an amp also. Now he has a whining noise comming from his speakers that goes up and down in proportion with the revs of the car. I think there is something you can buy to stop this but can't remember what it is called. Can somebody help here please.

That thingy is called on inline noise suppressor, fit in the +12v batt lead (Not the ignition controlled +12v or remote lead) to the amp/headunit make sure you get the correct amperage though (check the fuse rating on the amp EG 30amp fuse use a 30 amp suppressor). This high pitch sound is caused by the alternator so check the alternator suppressor and replace if needed.
Check all your earthing points, poor earthing is normally the cause of noise.
Are you using good quality RCA leads??? Make sure you use oxygen free copper cable with double or triple sheething/insulation, this helps eliminate noise and use gold plated plugs for ultimate connection reliability. You can also buy a suppressor that fits in line with your RCA cables this eliminates noise pick up on the RCA cables, it fits between your head unit and your amp. These items are readily avaliable from Maplins.
