I have the standard (poor) stereo in my MY99 with auto changer ,is there a good replacement for it that will swap easily and connect to the auto changer(does it need to be the same make head unit as the changer ..phillips I think )?

Thanks in advance .

Not sure if the Phillips changer is compatible with any other headunit other than another Phillips.

The headunit itself is a doddle to change. You should have been given some removal tools (small metal U-brackets) with your car. You just slide them into the 4 little holes to the left/right of the unit and the whole thing slides out.

There should be an ISO connector on the back, the changer cable and your aerial lead.

Any new headunit will have the same connectors (except the changer as this is different between manufacturers).

If I were you I'd just replace both or just get a new headunit with MP3 built-in, then sell your Phillips kit on here. There's always folk looking to put the std one back if they're selling the car.

Question

OZZY
Thanks for the info ,does anybody know if Phillips make a better head unit I could just swap over (it would be a lot easier , saves having to run a new lead to a boot changer etc )?

Philips sold their car stuff to VDO Dayton a few years ago, and the protocol's have changed since so I'm not sure you'll have much luck...

Running the cable isn't difficult, and the outlay needn't be large either

Have a look at http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk for prices. I'll be very surprised if you find stuff cheaper elsewhere.

Stefan

P.S. I bought my Alpine CDM-7874R headunit, Alpine amp and Infinity 605cs speakers from them. All arrived next day and they're cheap as chips
