Question

Hello there,

Got an MY 99 UK Turbo Saloon and was wanting to upgrade both front & rear speakers - trouble is I'm a bit of an 'ICE virgin' and could do with some help on deciding what to buy.

One thing, I am quite sure that I want to remain with a SONY product to match both my head-unit and wallet.

By the way, my head unit is a SONY CDX M630 (52W x 4 output?!)...

Any advice/taunts much appreciated

Shanno

Hi mate,

bit rushed at the moment, but see the faq for speaker sizes (6.5 front/5" rear) and general advice.

Listen to other setups before spending your money.

Cheers,
Nick.

I'd also be interested in any replies/advice/recommendations, having exactly the same system!

chiark, ur sizes section is empty

I measured the rear speakers in the shelf and they were 150mm (6").

I plan to go to my mates shop on saturday/sunday and try different speaker in the shelf to see what fits best and what sounds best.

I have had a look at the 'spacers' that go in the rear shelf holes and cant see any way of removing these without having to take the rear shelf itself out, which looks a big job in its self as I wanted to fit the 6x9's i have.

I will let u know my findings

I fitted Sony Xplod front speakers in my MY99, they are 16cm in size. Problem is I bought them in Japan and it even says ''Subaru'' on the package, can you believe that?
I checked a local car shop (yawn) over here and it seems that 16cm is rather hard to find, everything is either 17, 13 or 10 cm.

Cool

You gonna try this install yourself then Mark? Let us know how you get on pal...

Oh by the way, thanks very much for the e-mail m8, excellent news!

So folks, what's the general consensus for speaker sizes in cms then? I wanna spend some dough soon and haven't got a clue which Sony speakers I should be lookin' at...

Anyone know of a place that does free installation still? Halfords used to do it but have scrapped it now it seems...

Cheers all

If you ant Quality get Focal Access Componets for the fronm think they are £130 - but will blow the Sony outta the water

shano: i'm just gonna look at the different speakers that will fit, make a list and add them to my site for others to see wot fits ok without cutting anything.

regarding fitting the amps, sub, speakers, graphic eq and wiring i'm gonna get my mate mark to fit it all, he has worked as an ICE installer for 15yrs so trust him to pull car apart and re fit.

he has a gift and can get the best sound for every car and system so i hope to have a lovely system soon, just like i did in my RS escort.

by the way, cheque out my site lots of new stuff

let me know wot u think

Site looks good.

Any chance of persuading you to add what you find to the FAQ? I can give you a username and password for you to maintain your own bits...

Cheers,
NIck.
