Thinking about getting a Road Angel or something similar.

Anyone had one or got one etc...

Cheers in advance for any advice given.

I believe Road Angel is a GPS device, so will only warn of sites that have been added to their database. Depends on how up-to-date their database is really.

I've got a Bel Euro 550 which is purely a radar detector, so it wont pick up some traps such as SPECS. Works pretty well - good for identifying which speed cameras are live and which are dummy. You do get some false readings around town, usually from automatic doors, but there are 3 filter settings to minimise these.

It has certainly saved me from some very sneakily placed cameras on roads with inappropriate speed limits, so I think it is a good investment.

Thanks mate I'll take a look at that unit.

Is it hard to fit?

Cheers

Bel Euro 550 is the one I have too - very good!
There's barely any fitting - it suckers to the window & power comes from the *** socket. Presumably it can be wired in a bit more permanently too, but I don't use it often enough to warrant that

Chrome has the road angel. It's a GPS device with an optional laser detector, which I'd say is essential nowadays...

..and tbh- its proved itself a few times over just by notifying me of blackspots over crests and round blind corners. So now I can plan ahead and be more prepared and still drive smoothly while the rest of the traffic stamps on their brakes and risks life and limb..

so far had one false laser alarm (I'm pretty sure- no NIP yet..) bu taprat from that.. providing you update the unit often I cant see why it wouldnt be essential. SPECS cameras are a bitch without it...

I got a great deal on mine thru another BBS group buy..

Got my Bel 550 through a group buy also.

Only wiring is the power cord - unit is around the size of a *** packet and sticks to windscreen with mounting supplied. Only have to run the coiled power cord down to the lighter socket. All looks pretty neat and its easily removable.

Trouble with all laser detectors (both Bel 550 and Road Angel) is that they tend to only warn you once youve been zapped by laser. The laser has a much finer beam then radar, and so you dont get the signal diffraction which gives plenty of warning with radar detectors. Basically if the detector alarms of laser, you've already been targetted. You could use a laser jammer to deflect the targetted laser, but these are, umm, illegal.
