Morning y'all,

I'm day-dreaming about getting some nice speakers and a pre-amp, and probably a sub...

I'm not after much - just clear, rich, high quality sound in the front, not "sound-off" high volume sine waves or anything.

I went to Sextons, our local, and said the above, and the nice man pointed me at the following set-up:

o (existing sony MD head unit)
+
o Focal 165v2 speakers
o Directed Audio 4 channel 4200 amp
o Cables
o 1 roll dynamat
----
£509

+ maybe JL Audio 12" sub £160?

(+ Alpine 6x9s for the back given to me by a mate)

So, assembled car-audio gods:

- is this a good set-up?
- has anybody any experience of those brands?
- am I just being pointed at units he wants to shift?
- what would be a good alternative system?
- is it worth spending a bit more on the next model up?
- what else should I ask?

As I say, I'm after a high quality sound system, ideally for £500 - £750 ish, give or take.

Any advice / information welcome!

(And I know 6x9s don't fit without some persuasion..)

IMHO, I think you're looking at a good basis there. I'd ask him to break down the costs, as they initially strike me as a little on the high side.

Yeah, fitting and everything... total cost without sub = £509, with sub was $674 or something... (but that is definately stage 2)
