Question

I'm after an MP3 head unit for my scoob - I was looking at the Pioneer 7400MP thingy until I discovered it takes 7 seconds to change mp3 file! As I listen to a lot of DJ/Live albums this would have resulted in the head unit taking flying lessons

Can anyone recommend anything for around the same price (£250ish) that will play MP3's as they are intended

Cool

Just been reading Chiark's review of the kenwood below... sounds lovely but a bit more than what I want to spend... Might just have to fork out the extra!

I can only go on what I know - the kenwood changes files immediately. The other thing I considered was the blaupunkt woodstock and, to be honest, it was probably the fact that I'd still got a kenwood changer that swung me that way

Take a disc full of what you like to a local big stereo shop and have a play. Work out what you like using, and what does what you want. Then haggle with 'em, after telling 'em how much cheaper everything is on line

Take music you know well, and also take something that you expect to play sequentially - like two tracks on a CD that run into one without a pause. That'll see how quick the thing is at changing tracks

2 seconds - this is track to track, right?

The 9524 is a tiny, tiny, tiny glitch. We're talking milliseconds.

yeah track to track!

I'm not comparing it to every other make but I've not experienced the 'problems' that others have found with the 7400

I got my Kenwood PSW9521 (Chiark's model but last year's version) got it from above peeps for £280 odd. Bang on basically, and it's less than 0.5 seconds to jump between tracks....! Brilliant can recommned it.

I've got the kenwood 6021 cost about £190, also available at argos

Takes a few seconds for all the tracks to be recognised, when first loading disk, then no noticable gaps track to track.

Maybe a second or two between folder changes.

Buttons are a bit awkward, but ok when you get used to it.

recommended cheapo.
