My wiring block has been chopped off, therefore I need to know what colour is what.
I guess black is ground???

Don't assume anything. Get a multimeter out, especially if someone's been playing...

Magnet, seriously, they change colours on the wiring diagrams very often with no real pattern. IMHO, I would go through the tedious route of checking everything. It's a pain in the butt... But it's the only way to be sure, unless you find someone with exactly your car

Go and ask at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/legacyb4/ . It's the font of all Subaru Legacy turbo knowledge. If that fails then email and I'll see what I can find for you (I have a load of wiring diagrams, but most are for later model Legacies).
