Desparate JVC Head Unit Removal
#1
Right, my Mum is trading in her Mitsubishi Spacewagon in the next couple of days. Thing is, she had a nice JVC head unit installed but the guys who installed it didnt put the clips on the side. This means that the removal keys will not grip onto anything to pull it out.
Do you have any recommendations to remove it as I'm not keen on losing out on a hundred quids worth of stereo that I can have for free!
cheers

Have a word with young {insert stereotypical car thief's name here} from your local deprived council estate. I'm sure he'll have it out in seconds
Seriously though - have you tried a really thin, long terminal screwdriver? That worked fine for me with my kenwood?

Thats where Im lost! You can see the clips arent on the side tho and also the keys arent locating where the clips would be, so they cant be there. But Ive tried just pulling it with no luck. So god knows wot to do!

I had the same problem when trying to take out the head unit out of my impreza. I was looking for the clips for ages, I had a mechanic mate look at it and he said that most jap cars have their stereos screwed in from the sides. So we took of the surrounding bits of trim, (starting from the centre consul and working forward to the stereo!) until we had a clear view of the stereo, sure enuff there was two screws either side of the head unit. Unscrewed them and installed new head unit, which I screwed into place! Good luck!

Cheers for the quick responses guys.
I got up this morning and decided to have another bash at it. Managed to get a screwdriver on the outside of the cage and prized it out. Sorted!!!
Give me two weeks and I should have a sweet ICE install, providing I can get the remaining components off Tal and Chiark
Cheers all

Ill have to see! Ive got a bent rear lower arm and strut at the moment. So I should be getting replacements tomorrow and have them fitted in the evening. Then it all depends on what the wheel is like. I might have to get my 17s back on
Where do you reckon I should put the CD changer I just got? In the glove box? I might also have a head unit for sale. Ill have to check it out when I get home. Its a Sony summit or other!!!

Thats a good idea. Ill put the stereo back in the car. Drive to Luxembourg then let you take the dash off and pull the stereo back out again!!!! Nice 1
No, it came out most of the way with ease but after the half way mark it jammed and ripped my hands apart on the metal cage! Oh well, a trup to luxembourg might be needed next time
