THD - what does it stand for?

Non - car related, on a Sony minisystem it says the following:
50W x 2 RMS (@10% THD)


can anyone tell me what this means ?

Look at RMS or DIN ratings , 10% distortion is a high distortion rate. do bother with peak maximum power ratings PMPO there not worth the paper there written on.

indeed. as above, you want to look at the RMS figure that an amp will put out into .01% THD or thereabouts. Above that is pretty obvious, and 10% sounds like it's being played by a washing machine
