MY03 - Front Door Speaker Size/DAB Antenna
#1
Looking to upgrade the door speakers on my 5-door. What's available that would fit without resorting to butchering the door? I'm also looking to upgrade to a DAB tuner, but as the car has a window aerial, has anyone added a DAB antenna? If so, where did you mount it, and was it an easy job?
Thanks in advance...

O.K...for the benefit of others...
Replaced front door speakers with Focal Access 165A.
Tweeters were easy - remove OE from bracket (single 'Locktighted' screw) and replace with Focal tweeter.
Attached cross-over unit to door skin behind speaker with double-sided tape.
Butchered OE woofer to remove connector, which I soldered onto a flying lead to connect to cross-over 'input' (when
viewed from rear of connector, 'positive' is on bottom-right). Used SP61 spacer rings from http:www/auto-acoustics.co.uk which at 18mm deep aren't deep enough! Had to remove rubber magnet protector from speaker, then cut additional ring from laminate flooring MDF underlay to get enough depth.
Focal website says that 165A woofer is 66.2mm deep. Taking 23mm of spacer I used, say 25mm after removing rubber protector, that means actual available depth from standard mountings to screw on window lifter is about 41mm....
Next week will be the rears.
Still no-one fitted a DAB antenna?

I jst paid a car shop to try and fit these and with using 20mm mdf and the rubber boot removed they got the speaker in but the door card was pushed up against the woofer and the sound was all distorted.
how did you manage to do it unless the door card is different on the saloon to the wagon ??.

I don't know if there's any difference between the 5dr and the 4dr, but I didn't have to remove any plastic from the door panel. Maybe I was fortunate in getting the speakers aligned with the profile in the door panel. If so, it was more luck than judgement....
