STi8 ICE question?
#1
Right you lot, been reading some of the previous threads about what to do with the rear shelf in the 8, as if you want 6x9 speakers you need to cut the parcel shelf...
I recall someone mentioning 6x9 subs as an option? (hence no need to mod the rear shelf)
What companies do these types of speakers, Alpine / Kenwood / Pioneer / ?????????
I'm thinking about mid/tweeter in the front doors and some sort of small sub set-up in the rear now, powered by two v12 2way amps (one for front, one for rear).
Cheers, Alex

6x9 subs = Genesis. No other company to my knowledge makes a 6x9 that you could really classify as a sub.
Fitting is either from above (not stealthy at all) or from below. You'd need to reposition the little box of tricks on the blanking plate, but it isn't hard apparently
Cheers,
nick.

Sorry to gate crash the thread, but I have exactly the same question plus one more. Is it easy to connect additional speakers to the CD player that comes standard in the STi8? Is a separate amp required? Is the warranty affected if I fit them (sad ******* worrying about the poxy warranty again)? Why the **** dont Subaru offer this as an option?

Source Sounds in Sheffield. (Don't ask someone with a lisp to say that...)
Clanger, the standard stereo and speakers are pants. Subaru have apparently realised that people who want fancy aftermarket kit will want to fit fancy aftermarket kit whatever they put in there, so put stuff that is functional in there, and that's it. Apparently.
This doesn't explain why other brands supply good stuff at this level tho.
And car audio options from them would be, IMHO, not a great deal compared to using a specialist.
Warranty should not be affected, but if your car catches fire because you've wired something up stupidly, you may find a distinct lack of warranty
Cheers,
Nick.

Chiark,
If I fit a decent head unit to replace the standard item, do I get left with a big hole in my dash underneath? Also, would you have thought I could fit aftermarket speakers behind the original speaker grilles to keep things looking standard?
On another note, when going through the options list when buying the car, I (everso briefly) considered ticking the box for a right Panasonic poo box that was the same dimensions as standard. My ticking hand froze when the dealer said it cos £600ish. Talk about extract the urine. The unit was complete doo do - but better than the standard item (as if that was hard)

Subaru sell a single din unit that fills the gap (circa £16), it creates another cubby whole. So you can then buy almost any single DIN Alpine or Panasonic or Pioneer or Kenwood unit.. although some of the MASK units have been an issue I believe in the '01/02/03 cars ... Chairk will be able to confirm this I suspect...
