My01 Headunit Install Advice
#1
As my current double din unit has started to jump this was just the excuss I needed to replacement with something better. I have already replaced speakers with some Kenwood Dual mags so just need a decent single din unit with plans to install a SECS unit in the second half of the din slot. So far my short list is between
Pioneer DEH-P8400MP and Alpine CDA-9815RB. Both these units have a silver finish to match the dash although I think the Pioneer unit has been on the marker for longer.
I thought I would see how easy this change would be so printed off some intructions from Chairk's website, and followed to the letter to try and test fit my old Kenwood mask 9060R. The unit dosent fit very well unless what looks like you trim part of the trim panel, (dont fancy this). Then there is the Kenwood trim panel left out. I have read up on other posts which seams to indicate that Kenwood masks are slightly larger. From my short list of new units, I have checked and the Pioneer unit has a large surround panel which make me think this would also not fit, and would look naff without it in place. I think I may go for the Alpine but was looking for assurance that it would fit with trim and without cutting or modifying the dash.
Thanks

On my install I had to fit the head unit about 10mm back from flush with the trim as it was about 2mm too wide to fit through the hole in the trim panel. Try it like that.
It also meant that the mouting holes in the head unit lined up perfectly with the brackets.
