mp3/DAB/phone type help
#1
I AM A COMPLETE KNOW-NOWT NOVICE - PLEASE KEEP THINGS SIMPLE!
I'm looking for an MP3/DAB/CD player. I've heard good
things about the Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB53, but
wondered if there were any alternatives worth
considering.
I also want a hard drive - one that is linked (from
the boot, say, like a CD changer) to the stereo - so
that I can access my entire mp3 catalogue.
I am also looking for a handsfree car kit suitable for
the Nokia 6100. Can these be fitted so that the
callers voice is transmitted through the stereo
speakers? If not, what is the subtlest way of fitting
an external speaker?
Know any good suppliers/installers in London?
Thanks

First off, I don't know about the DAB question...
AFAIK there are three options for integrating HD based MP3 players into an ICE system and have the normal h/u control it.
Dension - www.dension.com (sell a unit that works with Alpine etc. h/u)
Kenwood Music Keg (Kenwood h/u only)
Phatnoise - www.phatnoise.com (personal import from the USA and works with a number of h/u)
As well as the above there are add-on units such as Mstation or NEO35 (try www.ssiamerica.com for current products or www.6thplanet.com for 'surplus' Mstations).
A mate has a phatnoise box which sounds good and works generally fine. There are some issues regarding playlisting of compilation albums and different play-modes which can cause some 'odd' linking to the next song/album etc.
Vindaloo.

The Woodstock has an input for audio from a phone kit so would be no problem to do, as do some Pioneer. Alpine, Kenwood etc would need something like the Autoleads mute lead (providing your not using amps. Alpine and Kenwood hard drive MP3 things are both pretty good, but not cheap. DAB, Kenwood you can pick up for around £300 online which has a bee sting type aerial included, Alpine is rrp £500 ish with no aerial.

I have a similar problem. I looking at using my iPod for the MP3 (40gb) plugged into a DAB headunit.
Problem is the cost. I have a top end Kenwood HU that would require 300 quid to add just DAB (FFS !! that's a rip-off)
I've yet to see any high end manufacturer produce a reasonably priced DAB/CD head-unit when compared to non-DAB.
MP3 bit is easy - just add a 70 quid cable (!!) for the iPod.
And I've asked here before but still not seen anyone express a view on Dension stuff (apart from one of their re-sellers - hi Lee )
Ahh, the traumas of early adoptors
