Just picked up a second hand Sony MD CDX-L450 Headunit and the socket on the back is different to what I would term the usual standard Subaru fitting block plug connector. It has two thin 8 pin sockets.

Halfrauds will charge me £29.99 to buy the converter cable, and will effectively double the price of the sale and ruin my 'good deal'.

I don't want to snip and re-solder/crimp the cable as I may not keep it.

Is there a cheaper alternative place to buy said converter cable, or another alternative I am not aware of?

Forever grateful to you never ending and superior knowledge!! (enough greasing?!)

Al.

Halfords charge 9.99 for an Autoleads PC2-44-4 converter.

25 quid is taking the urine.

Hi mate...

The guy (NOT a spotty teenager) led me to the Sony lead and said that was all they sold...

I'll go back armed with your info and ask again... No doubt I can just mention you name and they'll nod knowingly and charge me the right bloody price!!

Thanks Nick.

Nick..

I just took a look at the part on their website...

The back of the MD has two 8 pin sections. One on top of the other.

The PC2-44-4 seems to be 3 pin. It does say for Impreza on the 'more info' but is this to go to a proprietary Sony rear socket?

Aaaah, I see... In that case you need a Sony->ISO connector, plus the ISO->Subaru connector.

I'd sack it as a bad idea. For starters, the provenance of a second hand cheap unit that doesn't have the wiring harness isn't great. Has it got screwdriver marks down the side too?

It does have the wiring loom, and no screw driver marks / spare glass bits or blood stains...

Legit second hand, but the wiring to the plug is bare (not ripped!) soldered. So it was crimped or screwed in place.

I didn't want to do it, as I was just going pop it in to see If I liked it, but I may have to wire it in myself unless I am lucky enough to find a fellow scoob owner with a Scoob/Sony ISO cable knocking about in abox of bits!!

Thanks for the input.. appreciated.
