Hi all, I'm looking at up grading all my stereo in the scooby, I have almost everything out of my old car ( Totaling to almost £2K when I brought it all)... Sony head unit & changer etc...
Some very heavy duty wiring etc to power everything...
MTX amp to power 2x12inch Vibe subs...
Pioneer 4 channel amp to power speakers in the car...
Now question is... can I use my pioneer component set... they sounded clear as a bell when in my Orion... But they are 17cm...
Will they go in the Scooby... and where will they best fit, fronts or rears???
Then once I know where they'll fit best... I need to go and buy another set of speakers for eva front or rears, depending on where my pioneers fit!!!
Now, speaker wise, how long should I be looking at to fit these into doors and rear shelf...
Help me please???

Let us know how you get on with the 6x9 fit on the rear shelf as I am thinking of instaling some myself. Does your classic have the removable panel to alow either round or 6x9's in the rear shelf? It looks as if there is sort of a carrier plate that can be removed.(94 Classic)

The Pioneers should go in if they're not too deep. You'll need a spacer ring. Either make them or buy them from halfords. The speakers have to avoid the window mechanism without scuffing on the door trim.

Try a search to find previous posts on the subject in the past few months. There have been a couple of informative sub. threads too.

Fit the best speakers you have in the front, or buy better for the front. You'll need to make an MDF baffle for 'em, but even the most ham fisted (ie me) can get 'em to fit. I fitted something that was 72mm deep using a shedload of MDF and the original "pod" hacked around a bit, so you'll make them fit. Reckon on an hour if it's just a case of making an MDF template.

Instructions for door card removal etc are in the faq - http://www.chiark.com/scooby/icetoc.asp

Don't bother with 6x9s and subs. Best case it'll not sound too awful, and worst case you will destroy the 6x9s. Yes, I thought that was an urban myth, but it has happened to someone on talkaudio. If you do go for 6x9s, mount 'em from underneath for stealth reasons.

With your subs, you'll be struggling with rattles from the spoiler, boot, number plate, bumper, ... You'll also find that getting bass in to the cabin isn't too difficult but that the volume won't be great. Removing the rear speakers can help here, and leaving the holes empty allowing the subs to play into the cabin a bit.

Removing (or fitting) of rear speakers is a pain in a saloon - again, see the FAQ for what you have to do. Reckon on an hour or two to disassemble and reassemble, plus whatever time you need for making any baffles etc.

cheers,
Nick.

Cheers for your replies... do Halfords do a spacer plate, if so... have you got a part number...
I don't think I'll be to disapointed with the overall sound... I used to have it all in my MK3 Orion... and the sound quality and bass inside the car was un-real...
Dunno if any of you have ever looked at Vibe's stuff, but it is top quality and deafening... I'll have to put up with rattles etc in the boot... for now anyway...
My car has got them 6x9 plate things under the rear shelf... so fitting them shouldn't be to much hassle...

The rears are easy to fit my friend i have got 7x9's fitted and at a sqeeze they do actaully fit just close to touching the springs and bits that are there for the boot. i agree with the last comments on rattles i have tried sound deadening matts (dynamat) and yet still have rattles and no sub in the boot(dont need it the speakers give off just enough bass as it is).

Let me know how u get on with fronts as those are next on my agenda not sure hw big i can go without extensive work to the door pods and grils etc..

Anyone here know the exact measurements of the front speakers and the max depth we can go withot the electric windows catching??

I dirve a 98 classic sport just incase u guys need that info

cheers
