Speaker Sizes for MY97 Scooby
#2
Mine were 16cm. I just replaced them with some 17's, (Sony 1731, which I liked the sound of), and had to manufacture MDF spacers to suit.
It's a door card off job to get at the speakers, but if you know what you're doing, it's off in under a minute.

if you want a sub, then leave the rears redundant. they will only mess up your soundstage.
to be honest, just stick with a top pari of fronts, fade right to the front on your HU, and tune them to how you want at whaever volume you usually listen to them at... then slowly fade back till you get just a bit of ambience from the rears. there is no real point in upgrading them IMO...

Just spoke to Alpine Direct, they advised that the Alpine SPR176a has a too large of a magnet to fit in the front... :-(
Any advise...looking for Quality...components in 16cm....producing 50watts rms?

what u will find when upgrading with most speakers is that the depth of the speaker is a lot greater, and as a result will not fit properly into the stock hole, as they will clip on the windows.
using a 12mil or maybe 15mil spacer will pull the whole speaker forward, clearing it from the windows movements. just make sure you dont go too big with the spacer, as you will then start to hit the door card with the speaker.... 12-15 mil MDF should be fine

i have some boston pro 6.5s in mine, i think they have a mounting depth or around 65mil. i had to space em out 13-14 mil to clear the window if thats any help....
i think you sould be fine with 15mil both behind the speaker and in front, whatever speaker you decide to go for...
