Stealth Boxz - What's the verdict
Hi all,
I've had a pair of Kenwood WS252 10" small enclosure subs sat in the under stairs cupboard for about a year now (taken out of the wife's old car) and thought recently about sticking them in the Scoob (MY98 UK turbo). However, I want boxes that fit well and are of a good quality.
A quick google search came up with Auto Acoustic's website and listed their stealth boxz with pictures of it in the boot of a scoob. Very nice I thought, until I saw the price!
I have three questions really.... firstly are they worth the £150 price tag (bearing in mind I'd need two)
Secondly, If I've got two of these in the boot, where would you all suggest I put the amps (1 x Mono bass amp bridged at 2ohms running the subs, 4 channel amp for components in the front). Would it be worth me fitting only one of the subs and getting an Ampboxz?
Finally, the stealth boxz is listed as having a 21 litre internal volume. However Kenwood list the WS252 as needing an 18.6 litre volume box. Would this slight discrepency damage the sub/not give as good a result, so would I be best advised to get some wadding and bring the litreage (is that a word!) down?
Thanks for any advice fellas... sorry, I'm an ICE newbie!

1. that depnds on whther you think its worth the extra cost. they will sound no differnt to the sqaure boxes, the prmium your paying if for the fibreglass moulding to sit flush into the boot.
2.you could replace the covering at the back of the boot (behind the rear seats) with a sheet of mdf cut to size and then mount the amps onto that. or as you say, use one sub, and get an amp box.
3. the bigger box capacity just menas, you wont get as tight and accurate bass response as the reconmended box would, it wont damage your sub. as for the box. there is/was a second hand one for sale @ www.p1woc.co.uk. and its considerably cheaper then £150!
hope this helps

Jag,
Thanks for the reply, although I'm unsure exactly what you mean about replacing the covering behind the rear seats with MDF. Do you mean removing the carpet from the back of the seats and replacing it with MDF, then bolting the amps to that? I must admit I'm not that keen on that idea as they would be 100% on display and I'd like to hide them away if possible. A colleague at work suggested putting them under the front seats. Is this a good idea?

if you unscrew the back seats, you will see that behind the back part of the seat is like this felt board covering a hole. this is what you can see at the back of the boot when you open it.
i suggest remove this, and in the hole, place a sheet of carpeted MDF on which to mount the amps. if your worried about the amps being too much on show and risky, you could always cut out some sqaures (or rectangles) in the mdf sheet, so that the main part of the amp comes through, but the mounting bars stay behind the MDF. you could screw the amp in from behind the seats making them very secure...
you could put them under the seats if you want, but they could prove tricky to get to if you need to tune the gains etc on them...
its entirely upto you where you mounte them to be honest. i personally feel that keeping them in the back means no unessacary holes need to be made in the interior...

Jag,
Call me a spaz but still don't get 100% what you mean... I guess I'll have to take a look for myself!
Damn it Dan... i wish I'd known that before I ordered two brand new ones....Incidently, what did you think if the Stealth boxz? Did it fit well/not move about etc?
